TI-108 Calculators

Funny story about me and TI-108 calculators that I remember VIVIDLY:

In 1st grade at Open House, I was showing my parents my classroom. In our desk, we each had a little TI-108 calculator and I was SO AMAZED that it was solar powered. I remember taking it out of my desk and showing my mom and dad (with my teacher standing next to them) and saying, “LOOK! IT’S NOCTURNAL!” and showing them when you covered up the solar strip, it turned off. I didn’t understand why they were laughing at me, until my mom gently explained that’s not what nocturnal means, but rather it’s solar powered.

Flash forward 14 years later and I see my 1st grade teacher. She claims she remembers me vividly, and will always remember the day I called the calculator nocturnal.

I just can’t live that moment down.
